North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing Association (NEYYSA) is pleased to announce that entry to the North Region Youth & Junior Championships is OPEN! The event will be held at Ullswater Yacht Club on 21 & 22 June 2025.

The weekend builds on the successful 2024 event at Derwent Reservoir SC where 137 young sailors & their families had a brilliant weekend sailing and socialising. This year's event will be a volunteer run weekend celebrating the vibrant and active Y&J sailing scene in the region.

Racing is available for all sailors aged under 19 on 1 September 2025, class racing will be available in Optimists, RS Tera, RS Feva, Topper, ILCA4, ILCA6, 420, 29er and an open handicap fleet. There will be a coached Regatta section for those new to racing as well as the ever-popular Rookie fleet for the youngest sailors who are just learning which will be a mix of skill development and fun games.

The Championship fleet will also have a "Green" fleet coach supporting those who have moved into the Championship fleet this season from either the NEYYSA Regional Traveller Series Regatta division or last year's Regatta fleet and who may need a bit more support out on the water dealing with the large fleet and longer afloat time.

NEYYSA is delighted to be able to extend the event to include the Youth Classes who have been without a regional event focus for a number of years and by running an open handicap (PYN1050-1141) youth sailors who sail RS200s, Laser 2000s, RS Aeros & ILCA7 and others will be able to participate too.

There will be three race courses to accommodate the fleets and the format will include sprint racing, standard course racing and a "mini-Birkett".

Tents and motorhomes can stay on site and UYC is planning a Saturday evening social. On Saturday after racing (weather permitting) there will be demo opportunities with the 29er, 420 and Waszp classes as well as a try Wing-foiling session and paddleboarding.

Club team trophies will be awarded to the club with the most entries and the club with the greatest % improvement in entries from last year so start organising your home club sailors for a roadtrip!

Competitors are also invited to enter a design the T-Shirt logo competition; the winner will get their logo on the event T-shirt.

Where Do I Find Out More and Enter?

All the info, including the Notice of Race, Entry form and links for tent/van booking, is on the NEYYSA Website. You can also follow us on Facebook. Enter before 21 May for the early bird entry fees and entry closes on 13 June.

How Do I Get Involved?

This is a volunteer led event with NEYYSA heading up the organising team along with UYC. The region has a vast array of skills and kit which will be needed, please share the plans with everyone at your club and ask your committee what you and your club can do to help deliver this big event. Additional RIBS are needed to maximise the numbers who can participate - can you bring one from your club to UYC? If you can loan a RIB or want to help at the event, please get in touch via the forms on our website.

You can also help by supporting your club members to get organised to join in. Do you have space on your trailer, can you tow as well as car-top? Help those members who are new to sailing and may not have the confidence to go travelling on their own to join in; you were a newbie once too. Extend the hand of sailing friendship and offer your support and knowledge so that more people can participate and enjoy new experiences within the sport.

We look forward to receiving your entry and seeing you all at Ullswater YC on 21 & 22 June.
