As forecasted, conditions in Cadiz turned extreme from the early morning, with winds ranging from 30 to 38 knots from the southwest and waves reaching up to 4 meters. The Race Committee, led by Ewa Jodlowska, initially hoisted AP flags ashore for all fleets. However, shortly after noon, the Delta flag went up for the Senior Men, and they headed out to race.
The scene on the racecourse was at the same time scary and exciting, and while half of the fleet was unable to finish any of the races due to time limits or other issues, the top 25 athletes had the time of their lives. Paris 2024 Silver Medalist Grae Morris (AUS 81) thrived in the survival-mode conditions, winning all three races.
"It was an eventful day, pretty windy - I think all the boys can agree it was a hectic few races. The wind was definitely in the high 30s, with a pretty big swell. Some people got taken out by the whitewash. It was a fun day, but I'm really excited to get into a warm room and eat some food now. I managed to pull off wins in all three races, so I was happy to stay consistent in these conditions. I even got away with a crash in one of them. Holding first place going into the Medal Series tomorrow gives me a good advantage - I already have one win secured in the Grand Final. If I win the first race tomorrow, I win the regatta; if not, I get another chance," commented Grae Morris (AUS 81).
Right behind him, Finn Hawkins (GBR 19) - 2024 U23 World Champion - bounced back from a rough 13th-place finish in the first race to claim a third and a second in the last two. This strong performance keeps him firmly in second place, securing him a direct spot in the Grand Final of the Medal Series tomorrow. Noah Lyons (USA 6) and Max Castelein (NED 36), who consistently placed around the top 10 today, finished third and fourth, earning them direct access to the Semi-Final.

Other Fleets: Racing Called Off
The Race Committee remained on Course Bravo for over an hour after the Senior Men's last race, hoping for conditions to improve for the Senior Women and U19 Men. However, the extreme conditions forced them to call off racing for the rest of the fleets. As a result, yesterday's standings became final, confirming the top 8 athletes advancing to the Medal Series.

Looking Ahead: The Medal Series
The Medal Series tomorrow will feature two racecourses running Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and Grand Finals. The 5th to 8th-ranked athletes will compete in the Quarter-Finals, with the top two advancing to the Semi-Finals, where they will face the 3rd and 4th-ranked sailors. The top two from the Semi-Final will then join the 1st and 2nd-ranked sailors in the Grand Final.
The winner will be the first athlete to secure two race wins, with the leader of the Opening Series starting with a bonus win.
With big stakes and enjoyable conditions, the final showdown at the iQFOiL International Games #2 in Cadiz promises to be intense.
