Seawind Catamarans has taken a significant step in its global expansion with the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Izmir, Turkiye.

This new investment is not only a major step forward for Seawind's plans to target the European market but also a fresh breath for the marine industry in the country, as the first serial production multihull manufacturer in Turkiye.

The factory, purpose-built for manufacturing catamarans up to 42 feet, is managed by Seawind Europe's managing partner, Kivanc Kardes, an industrial engineer with 25 years of manufacturing experience in the automotive industry. His passion for sailing led him to partner with Seawind through a series of remarkable coincidences—making both Richard Ward and Kivanc feel that this collaboration was "meant to be."

Kivanc shares his journey: "After graduating as an industrial engineer, I worked with my uncle in a small family-owned company. Over the years, we grew from a 7-person workshop to a 450-person, multi-facility operation in Turkey and Europe. After 25 years in the automotive industry, the pandemic made me reflect on my goals. I sold my shares and left the company in 2021."

"The same year, I wanted to pursue my sailing hobby further. I had a flashback to 2016 when my wife and I named our sailing boat after our children—Deniz (meaning 'Sea' in Turkish) and Rüzgar (meaning 'Wind'). We combined them into 'Seawind,' unaware of the Australian brand. Years later, when I considered a business in sailing, this memory resurfaced, and I reached out to Seawind's owner, Richard Ward. By coincidence, Richard had already fallen in love with Turkey during a 2019 visit and was seeking an opportunity to manufacture here. My email reignited his vision, and after a series of meetings and visits, we established Seawind Europe. Learning that we even share the same birthday was the 'cherry on top' of this incredible journey."

Located in the Izmir Free Zone in the northern part of the city, the strategic location of the manufacturing plant allows easy access to several marinas and industrial ports. Additionally, the availability of a workforce experienced in composite manufacturing in the region is another key advantage.

Strategic location for global reach

The decision to establish a factory in Turkiye is a strategic move to better serve European and global customers. Seawind Europe's new plant not only manufactures the brand-new Seawind 1170 model but also serves as a sales and marketing base for all Seawind models sold into the European market. The factory also functions as a commissioning, handover, technical service, and maintenance center.

To support these additional functions, Seawind has opened an office at the brand-new Oasis Marina in Yeni Foça, Izmir, approximately 25 minutes from the manufacturing plant. Oasis Marina, inaugurated in 2023, is the newest marina in the Northern Aegean, located just 30 minutes from Izmir. It offers world-class services for motor yachts and sailboats ranging from 8 to 30 meters, with a capacity of 245 berths and 100 dry berths. The marina provides 24/7 mooring assistance, electricity, water, Wi-Fi, accessible restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, fuel and waste collection stations, and haul-out and maintenance services. Its proximity to the manufacturing plant and comprehensive amenities make it an ideal location for Seawind's commissioning and handover processes.

This strategic location enables the commissioning and handover of Seawind boats built in either Turkiye or Vietnam. It provides owners from around the world with a unique opportunity to take delivery in Turkiye, explore the stunning Turkish coastline, cruise the beautiful Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, and enjoy world-class Mediterranean sailing destinations.

Since its official opening in September 2023—attended by Seawind Group Holding CEO Richard Ward, Australian Ambassador Miles Armitage, and close to 300 marine industry guests—the production line has been fully operational. The first hull from the facility was launched in August 2024, with the third hull expected to be completed in February 2025. The factory is now ramping up production to achieve a capacity of 12 boats per year.

Seamless handover and after-sales support

Seawind Turkiye is not just about manufacturing—it also provides a seamless handover experience for customers. The commissioning process is meticulously handled, with local trades and marine experts ensuring that each yacht is fully operational before delivery. Customers benefit from hands-on training, system checks, and final adjustments, allowing them to set sail with confidence.

One key advantage of taking delivery in Turkiye is the ability to immediately explore the stunning Mediterranean cruising grounds. Many owners choose to embark on their voyages directly from Turkiye, enjoying a smooth transition from factory handover to adventure. Additionally, for customers in the U.S., the option of mast-up shipping makes transportation more convenient and cost-effective.

Seawind's aftersales service ensures continued support beyond handover. With a dedicated team in place, customers can rely on technical assistance, spare parts availability, and expert advice, reinforcing Seawind's commitment to customer satisfaction.

Collaboration between factories

Today, Seawind Turkiye and Seawind Vietnam are working closely to enhance efficiency, share best practices, and ensure consistency across all production lines. This collaboration strengthens the brand's global presence and maintains the highest standards in catamaran manufacturing. As production ramps up and more customers take advantage of the seamless handover experience, Seawind Turkiye will continue to set new standards in multihull manufacturing. Whether for European buyers looking for a local delivery option or global customers eager to explore the Mediterranean, Seawind's investment in Turkiye ensures a bright future for both the company and its customers.
