Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja at Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja - Day 2

by Prensa Sailing Comunicación 31 Jan 13:23 PST 30 January - 2 February 2025

Second and last day of the qualifying round marked by instability and lack of wind, with a small squall that left the fleet with only one race completed.

The Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja Trophy, organised by the RCN Torrevieja, continues to make progress, despite the fact that today the wind has been unstable and has come with little intensity, which has allowed to close the day with only one race of the three planned.

With this fourth race in the overall count, in addition to the discard, the qualifying round is closed, so the Gold Group is defined, as well as the rest: Silver, Bronze and Pearl. This final series is reached with two days, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 February, with six races scheduled, with the 107 best in the Gold Group.

The favourites are consolidating their position at the top of the table, especially after the discard applied. Marta Mansito-Valverde has not lost ground, although today she has closed her participation with 7th place, a partial discard, so she has 8 points in her total. The same as the Balearic Xuacu Garcia (CN S'Arenal), who today has not been at all fine the blue group, scoring a partial of 58. This result has reduced his options to be a step higher, since yesterday, competing in the red group, closed with partial 3-3-2.

Margaux Nguyen-Minh (Aberdeen BC / Sopraventus) from Hong Kong has not been at his best either, and although he was second yesterday, today he has dropped a step. In the only completed race he has not exceeded the 77th place. Who has not failed is another of the favourites to be on the podium, Juan Lleonart (CN El Balís), along with Frenchman Charles Ganivet (BN Mare EV). The Catalan finished in fourth place among the blue group, while Gavinet, competing in the yellow group, achieved his second partial victory in Torrevieja.

In the only completed race, along with the Frenchman Gavinet, the American Jaiden Strickon (Team Happy) also won in the blue group, as well as the Frenchwoman Clara Zunquin (Régates de Royan) in the red fleet and the Canary Islander Lili Maria Skomska (RCN Gran Canaria) in the white group.

Regarding the local fleet of the RCN Torrevieja, Iván Sáez, Valentina Belso, Izan Rogel, and Gonzalo Ballester achieve the pass to the gold group, to be part of the 107 best sailors who have already achieved this recognition after concluding the qualifying round.

The wind conditions for this third race, the first of the final round, are expected to be a little tricky with light rain, which is why the race committee has decided to bring forward the starting time for the first race of the day by 30 minutes, from 10.00 to 9.30
