Nathan Sopher and Lauchlan Wills have taken an early lead in the RS Feva event, being held in parallel as part of SailGP Inspire's program.

The pair who hail from Murrays Bay SC and Howick SC won three of the five races sailed on the Inner Waitemata Harbour off Mechanics Bay.

Easterly winds of 17-20kts kicked up a moderate seastate, to test the 50 strong fleet.

Matteo Barker and Blake Batten (Murrays Bay SC) are in second place on the overnight points - just 4pts astern of Soper and Wills. They won the final race of the day but sailed consistently scoring two second places, and a 4th & 6th. They were able to drop the latter as their discard place.

Thomas Linklater and Harry Strang (Tauranga YPBC) are third overall 8pts behind the series leaders.

The only other crew to win a race, James Currell and George Hayton (Maretai SC/Howick SC), lie in 6th place overall.

Th top female crew of Zophie Wells and Charlotte Handley (Glendowie BC/Murrays Bay SC) are in fifth place overall. Their best place was 2nd in Race 2 - all their counting places were in the top ten.

Racing continues on Saturday from 1000hrs to 1300hrs, with similar conditions expected.
