The crews sailed in a building easterly seabreeze of 10-12kts, a prelude to fresher breezes expected for the remaining three days.
Several two lap practice races were sailed - all were keenly contested by the crews drawn from yacht clubs around New Zealand - with plenty of "protest" hails, particularly in mark roundings as the crews tried to assert their rights under the racing rules.
