After two circumnavigations, in boats under 30ft, without an engine, veteran cruiser, Lin Pardey has released a new book recounting the experiences and anecdotes and sailing 200,000nm with the late Larry Pardey.

Lin Pardey's latest book is now in print and available in New Zealand and worldwide (and of course as an eBook on line.) Reviews from the US release have been heartwarming.

The first reviews say it all: “a passionate and well-told recounting of adventures and triumphs… It's a remarkable book — fierce, honest, truthful and heartbreaking. And as with every Pardey book, extremely open and well-written. Passages succeeds as a touching memoir and a deep love story (in two parts), but most of all, as a rollicking good sea tale” — Herb McCormick, author and roving editor – Cruising World

“Lin Pardey’s new book just may be her best. It’s so much more than a classic Pardey voyaging narrative, as Lin and Larry sail to the far south and round Cape Horn and into the Pacific. It’s filled with wisdom and love, as Lin chronicles Larry’s slow decline with perspective and deep gratitude for the life they were able to share. And it’s filled with hope and optimism for the future, a blueprint for how to keep living as we get older. It’s a terrific story.” — John Kretschmer, adventurer/author, Sailing a Serious Ocean

“This is a brave book, written by an indomitable woman and sailor who, now 80 years old, continues to live life “all the way up.” It honors the man with whom she shared more than 50 years of that life voyaging the world’s oceans and inspiring generations of sailors. And though it sails straight on into the hardest of life’s passages, it also celebrates the light that emerges when one has had the strength and courage to endure the storm.” — Wendy Mitman Clarke, Editor-in-Chief, SAIL Magazine

Lin, with her late husband Larry, voyaged more than 200,000 on two small (24 feet and 29 feet long) engine-free boats they built themselves, circumnavigating both east and west around the world. During that time, they created a dozen books on seamanship and voyaging on small vessels while also presenting several hundred seminars in seven different countries. After receiving more than a dozen international awards for seamanship and contributions to the sailing community, in 2022, they were inducted into the US Sailing Hall of Fame. During the award presentation they were credited with “Launching 100,000 dreams.”

It was forty years ago, that the Pardey’s sailed into New Zealand. They weren’t looking for a home but dreamed of cruising on forever. During what was supposed to be just a winter lay-over, a home found them. “Not a home as such, but a homebase,” Lin told herself as they set sail from Kawau Island three years later to continue their peripatetic ways. And now, Lin has finally turned her hand to writing the memoir which tells the saga of creating that homebase, and of the voyages that have lead her, time and again, back to New Zealand. Throughout this rich tale she reminds people of the motto Larry coined early in their lives together, “Go small, go simple, go now.” It still resonates with thousands of sailors, not only in New Zealand but right around the world.
