2024 World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship at Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina - Day 2

by Jordan Reece 30 Nov 2024 10:35 PST 29 November - 2 December 2024

The second day of the 2024 World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship saw greater racing on the Red Sea, as teams from across the globe continued to battle to be crowned champions of the world.

Hosted by World Sailing in conjunction with Sail Saudi and Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina, the qualifying stage is almost complete, with two flights remaining.

Near-perfect conditions again greeted the twelve teams, representing ten nations this week. An early morning light 6 - 8 knot North-Westerly continued to build throughout the day, slowly clocking right and building to 13 - 16 knots before racing concluded at sunset.

Australia's Cole Tapper had another positive day on the water and remains at the top, one point clear of defending World Champions France. Tapper and his team made a strong start to their day, claiming two wins in the light morning breeze before a long break ashore. Their afternoon match up against Ireland however saw the Aussies lose their first match of the Championship.

The big mover on Day 2 saw Sweden's Marius Westerlind climb from 9th to 3rd, showing his year's of experience at this level, now competing in his fifth world championship. Denmark also made a big recovery from 11th to 7th and have qualified for the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Whilst two flights remain, the quarter-finalists are now set, with Australia, France, Sweden, New Zealand, USA, Denmark and Ireland advancing.

Stay up to date on with latest results here, or for event highlights, follow the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy or Sail Saudi on social media.
