The 2025 Etchells Worlds entries close in just over a week and the competition is continuing to ramp up at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC).

As chances to race before the Worlds continue to cross off preparation lists, the One Design Keel Boat regatta held last weekend at RBYC was won by Peter Robson's Playing Around 3, with Brendon Jukes' Jukes of Hazzard and Christian Boillot's Tamm Ha Tamm rounding out the remainder of the podium. All three will be taking part in the World Championship in January 2025.

The Christmas Cup 13-15 December will be the next opportunity to see more teams from around Australia and from overseas showcasing their skill and the form that can be expected in the lead up to the Etchells Worlds.

Royal Brighton Yacht club Commodore Peter Demura is looking forward to providing a great venue for all entrants to the competition, especially in the RBYC's 150th Anniversary year.

"The Royal Brighton Yacht Club is thrilled to be welcoming the Etchells", Demura commented.

"This is the third time we have hosted an Etchells Worlds and we're proud that many of the world leading Etchells sailors, both past and present, call RBYC home."

"It is especially fitting as 2025 is the club's 150th anniversary, and the club has its roots in one-design racing. This is a terrific way to start our 150th anniversary year, the first of many events and celebrations," he finished.

The Club Captain of the Etchells, Marnie Irving echoed the excitement which is felt by all at the club.

"It is a wonderful time for sailing at the club [RBYC], and the younger sailors especially will be thrilled to see such a high level of competition at their home venue. It's also a great experience for all the volunteers, to be involved in running races at such a high level."

The immediate past Commodore of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC), Niesje Hees, an Etchells sailor herself and long-term secretary of the International Etchells Class Association of Australia, is looking forward to seeing the club host after their missed opportunity during Covid.

"We were supposed to hold the Worlds at RBYC in 2023, but Covid delayed everything. It's great to finally be able to host another Etchells Worlds at the Club. The members of the Organising Committee chaired by Peter Robson are all keen Etchells sailors and the entire Melbourne Fleet is very much looking forward to the regatta," said Hees.

The Etchells World Championship has so far attracted 41 entrants from across Australia and international entries from the USA and Hong Kong.

Ensure that you enter before 30 November to be a part of the action.
