San Diego Yacht Club's annual Women's Winter Invitational Regatta (WWIR) is just over the horizon, returning to the La Playa Basin February 14-16, 2025. As one of the first established yacht club challenges for women in the country, this all-women event aims to encourage participation in the sport while offering a spirited platform (think Flamingo marks) for competition. Racing takes place in the SDYC club owned fleet of J/22 sailboats, just off the docks, where competitors can expect exhilarating competition and camaraderie all weekend long.

This invitation-only event draws teams from 24 yacht clubs across North America, with over 80 competitors escaping colder climates to enjoy San Diego's warm mid-winter waters. Spectators can look forward to a thrilling, action-packed dockside sailing event.

Along with the high intensity racing, sailors and their guests will get to enjoy a weekend full of on-land social activities. The weekend starts on Friday, February 14 with a practice session in the afternoon followed by a welcome reception that encourages the sailors to connect with friends, old and new.

The first day of racing kicks off on Saturday, February 15, and after an action-packed day on the water, competitors are invited to the regatta party and dinner at the Club, which includes entertainment and fun surprises. Following the final races on Sunday, sailors will come together one last time to celebrate the weekend's achievements at the awards party and bid farewell before returning to the routines of daily life.

Applications for invitation are currently being accepted through December 1, 2024. Accepted teams will be notified of their invitation by December 9, 2024. Teams can apply here.

SDYC is encouraging Woman Sailors to form teams of 3-4 to compete in the Women's Invitational Preview Regatta. The regatta, held in J/22s on January 4, 2025, is a one day event of short courses held in La Playa off E Dock. This regatta will serve as the qualifier for the San Diego Yacht Club entry for the 2025 Women's Winter Invitational Regatta, February 14-16.

Spectators, press, and invited guests are welcomed dockside at SDYC, aboard their own boats, or for the general public along Point Loma's Bessemer Path, just boat lengths from the course.
