The second-ever Junior Pan American Games is set to take place August 9 through 23, 2025 in Asunción, Paraguay, with automatic entry to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru for any athletes that take home gold in the 2025 junior edition. The Junior "Pan Ams" aims to identify and support the young stars that will become tomorrow's Pan American and Olympic champions.

Preliminary Notice to Selection Procedures for Junior Pan American Games 2025

This opportunity for Junior athletes to qualify for the 2027 Pan American Games is in addition to spots available through the standard country qualification procedure, resulting in an additional berth in each 2027 Pan American Games Sailing event. The entry is awarded to the winning athletes, not the country, and is not transferable to other athletes.

4,206 athletes from 41 countries in 28 sports will convene in the capital of Paraguay with sailing events taking place in Encarnación, 230 miles southeast of Asunción.

For the second installment of the Junior Pan Ams, sailing will feature the following events:

Men (3)

  • Men's Windsurfing (iQFOiL)
  • Men's Singlehanded Dinghy (ILCA 7)
  • Men's Kite (Formula Kite)
Women (3)
  • Women's Windsurfing (iQFOiL)
  • Women's Singlehanded Dinghy (ILCA 6)
  • Women's Kite (Formula Kite)
Athletes must meet the age requirements as determined by the Pan American Sport Confederation: be at least 17 years old and not more than 22 years old in the year of the Pan American Junior Games (year of birth 2003 - 2008, inclusive).

To provide as much information in a timely manner, US Sailing is releasing this Preliminary Notice to the Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games. This document is being written as a complement, and not a substitute, to the 2025 Junior Pan American Games Athlete Selection Procedures. Additional communication will be released by US Sailing once the Athlete Selection Procedures have been approved.

The Preliminary Notice to the Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games was published on November 4, 2024.

"I am excited to build momentum with our Olympic Development camps this winter and end with the Junior Pan Am Games qualifier for four of the six classes," said Rosie Chapman, Olympic Development Director. "The athletes are being coached by our own Olympic and Pan Am Games athletes and will learn a lot on the lead up to the selection event. Retention and knowledge sharing is key to the success of the development program and this passing down of expertise from our seasoned veterans is a step in a great direction. As a team, we are in a strong position.

"This is a momentous step in an athlete's journey," continued Chapman. "The event is a part of the Team USA delegation effort, so athletes will get to experience this as their first 'Games'-type exposure. We have impressive depth of talent across the classes, so it's sure to be a good battle for the spots!"
