21st Jabuka Regatta: Iconic offshore race to the Croatia's most isolated island

by JK Tijat Vodice 8 Nov 2024 07:04 PST 8-10 November 2024

Vodice is once again the sailing center of the Adriatic. The 21st edition of the Jabuka regatta, the largest and most popular offshore race in Croatia, is taking place from November 8th to 10th, organized by JK Tijat Vodice.

Over 100 boats and nearly a thousand sailors have gathered, ready to tackle the demanding route to Croatia's most remote island. Numerous domestic and foreign crews have already arrived in the city, eagerly awaiting the start of this unique sailing spectacle known for its nighttime start and exhausting sail.

"From an idea born of enthusiasts, the Jabuka Regatta has grown into a cult event over the past two decades, becoming a hallmark of Vodice. Thanks to the support of the city and numerous partners, we have managed to create a sailing festival that attracts thousands of visitors and countless domestic and foreign crews eager to experience the magical beauty of Jabuka. Together with the sailors, we are creating an unforgettable celebration that closes the tourist season in the best possible way," said Stanko Skocic, proud president of the Tijat Sailing Club.

For many sailors, the volcanic island in the heart of the Adriatic holds an almost mythical allure, and rounding Jabuka in a regatta is a trophy that is especially prized in sailing circles. As a beautiful blend of natural beauty and the strength of the human spirit, the Jabuka Regatta has numerous fans across Croatia and the world, so it is no wonder that over 60% of the crews are foreigners.

"The 110-mile stretch between Vodice and Jabuka is one of the toughest sailing courses in the Adriatic. With its unpredictable weather and open waters, it's a real test for both sailors and their boats. But it's this very challenge that brings us together. The Jabuka Regatta is more than just a race; it's a shared experience. We face the elements as a team and celebrate our successes as a family," explained Stanko Skocic.
