World Sailing is inviting proposals for exhibition events at the 2026 and 2027 World Sailing Championships. Successful events will also have the opportunity to be considered for inclusion in future World Sailing events and the Olympic Games programme from 2032.
The new shared format of the World Sailing Championships includes the provision to stage invitational events. Applications are welcome from across the sport and will be evaluated in line with the criteria of World Sailing's Olympic Vision.
David Graham, World Sailing CEO, said, "The World Sailing Championships provide a unique opportunity to showcase events that align with our vision for the future of Olympic sailing.
"This year's Paris 2024 Olympic Games introduced Men's and Women's Kite for the first time with great success. Both were invitational events at the 2018 World Sailing Championships in Aarhus and have grown to become an important part of the sport, showing that our pathway to develop events can lead to disciplines becoming regular World Sailing events and part of the Olympic program."
Interested parties should contact the World Sailing Executive Office by email at to receive the bid document and return it completed before 20 January 2025.
To ensure an open and transparent process, a Working Party of cross-committee experts will be appointed and will study all proposals against the Olympic Vision criteria to make a recommendation to the World Sailing Board for consideration in February 2025.
