Hansa UK Traveller Trophy Series Round 8 at Midland Sailing Club

by Phil Reeves 25 Sep 2024 21:07 NZST 28 August 2024

Midland Sailing Club hosted Round 8 of The Hansa TT Series on August 28th. This is the third year that the event has been held at the Club and there are participants from all over the country that attend.

We were blessed with good weather again this year with sunny skies, a comfortable 21 degrees C, and a light breeze that kept things interesting as it kept shifting as is the Midlands way!. It was the kind of day that makes you fall in love with sailing all over again. With 28 participants in 4 classes eager to hit the water, the stage was set for some exciting competition.

The competition was fierce at the front across all four classes: Liberty, 303 Single, 303 Double, and 2.3. In the mid field there were some that enjoyed the fact that they were taking part for the first time and every sailor gave it their all, pushing themselves to the limit in pursuit of victory.

Liberty Class: Paul Phillips took the top spot, with Paul Peason in second and David Durston rounding out the podium in third.

303 Single Class: Rory Mckinna claimed first place, followed by James Woosman in second, and a very impressive Sophie Brisley in third.

303 Double Class: Rick and Sue Jillings sailed to victory, with Lynne and Stu Swan taking second, and Paula Roddy and Mike securing third.

2.3 Class: In a particularly inspiring performance, Sophie Forbes took first place, followed by Kiaan in second, and Ashanti in third. This class featured juniors from Midland Sailing Club, who were truly impressed with their determination and skill.

After the races, we held a small awards ceremony to honour the top performers. Each winner received a beautifully crafted mug featuring the Midland Sailing logo, and the first-place winners were also presented with a hand-painted picture of a sailing scene.

But beyond the prizes, the true reward was the joy of being out on the water, sharing a perfect day of sailing with friends and fellow enthusiasts.

We're already looking forward to next year's Hansa Regatta!
