Sea trials for new Scania-Powered Viking 48 convertible results are in

Scania, one of the world's leading manufacturers of engines, announced today the success of the sea trials of the recently launched Viking 48 Convertible powered by twin Scania 1,150 HP DI16-liter V8 engines. The vessel, MACK ATTACK, launched in June, was commissioned by Mack Boring & Parts Co. to demonstrate the reliability and performance of Scania's most powerful pleasure craft-certified V8 engines.

"We have all been thrilled with the performance of the Scania 1,150 HP DI 16 engines in our new demo," said Patrick McGovern, President, Mack Boring & Parts Co. "The Viking 48C may be the largest 48-foot Convertible out there, and the ability of the Scania engines to accelerate her onto plane quickly has exceeded expectations, while the cruise and top speed are great in a boat of this class. Once again, we are showing the yachting customers that Scania engines from 700-1,150 HP offer a new and improved option for their diesel engine selection backed by global support and a local distributor with over 100 years' experience."

The MACK ATTACK will be showcased at many upcoming events throughout 2024 including the MidAtlantic Tournament, Atlantic City In-Water Boat Show, Newport International Boat Show and Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Built on a Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) engine block and employing a simple wastegate turbocharger, the Scania DI16-liter engine delivers top-of-class performance without the need for additional turbos or superchargers. The resulting lighter weight, combined with Scania's proprietary Engine Management System (EMS) and common rail extra high-pressure injection system (XPI), optimizes fuel delivery enabling impressive torque, lower noise and exceptional fuel efficiency.
