Champagne sailing conditions made for a perfect final day of the Burnham Week 2024 Bank Holiday Weekend.
On the Burnham Sailing Club start line, the dinghies were joined by the Phantoms for the last day of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The Laser/ILCA fleet was categorically won by James Hutton-Penman, who scored two more wins today, followed by Duncan De Boltz in second, with 15 points and Royal Corinthian Otter Nathan Flynn in third with 17 points.
Flynn and Niamh Davies, Merlin Rocket, won the Dinghy Fast Handicap Bank Holiday Regatta, with a fourth and a first today, with juniors Noah Mathers and Rory Luddington, RS Feva XL taking the second in front of Jo Tribe and Marcus Collingbourne, RS200, who finished the weekend in third place.
Arthur Bullen continued his winning streak from yesterday and with two more firsts today, he won the RS Tera's weekend.
The Phantoms enjoyed a less bumpy sailing day from the BSC Start Line, with Richard Nurse taking the weekend win, followed by Titch as a runner up.
On the Pile House Start Line, things were heating up, with quite a bit of unfinished business left to be concluded in various fleets and with the area between the Pinto and Redward marks to be extremely busy.
With a first and a third for today's races, Serious Moonlight, Richard Bavin, Joey Thompson, Duncan Haley won the RS Elite weekend and the Princess Caroline Bowl trophy, just one point in front of Blind Squirrel, sailed by Bill Blank, Stuart Pinch, Sharon Blank.
The Squibs, the largest fleet of the regatta, with 25 competing boats, had two very close fought races and going into their last race of the weekend had no less than 7 boats tied for the top positions, with Budgies Tongue 105, sailed by Jack Grogan and Gina Vince emerging as the winners for the David Eagling Memorial Trophy, followed by Ray Apthorp and Ian Simmons, Nemesis 806.
The Sandhoppers 10 boats flee' Rice and Cole Sandhopper Salver was won by Susan and William Daly, Sand Star 159, while the runners up were Kevin Whittle and Matt Lis, on Wild Gull 29.
Nick Wood's Origami swept the Multihulls weekend and was awarded the Sabin Cup, for the Saturday win, the Brent Walker Bowl for the Sunday win and the Tolhurst Trophy, for the overall weekend win, while Nigel Stevens' Triassic won the Lakedale Trophy as runner ups.
In Cruisers Class 1 & 2 matters were a bit simpler, with Cobra, skippered by Phil Collard and crewed by Jeff Welch, Dave Macpherson, Tony Hall, Clifton Warry, Duncan Haley, Martyn Randall, Andrew Reynolds, sweeping the weekend, with Paul Trueman's Exile as a runner up.
Class 5 cruisers, the local handicap with spinnaker, a 9 boats strong fleet, was won by Richard Taylor's Rondo, followed by the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club 707, helmed by Alex Hill and at times by his 7 years old son, who also won the Sigma 33 Salver, for their win on the Bank Holiday Monday.
The Bank Holiday Weekend Team Trophy was won by Burnham Sailing Club.
The Class 6, local handicap with no spinnakers, was won by Lucy Lee, sailed by Ian Keam-George, Janice Keam-George and Katie Keam-George with three wins, while Ningaloo, sailed by Mick Hill, Phil Shanahan, Simon Saunders, Andy Woodhill and Tim Howard were the runners up.
The BWL Salver Inter Club Team Trophy was won by Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, represented by Lucy Lee and the RCYC's 707.
The Dragons had a very close weekend, with the top three boats being separated by 1 point each, with Avalanche 722, Mark Wade, Amanda Wade and Nigel Cole taking the Solent Points Trophy, while Beauty and the Beast 746, Peter Marchant, Katie Cole and Noddy Norden were the runners up.
The Ospreys had their final two races of the Bank Holiday Weekend won by Roger and James Blake, for the Osprey Trophy, while the runners up were Robert Shaw and Ian Little.
The Royal Corinthian One Design last race of the weekend saw Clive and Graeme Page, helped by Paul Stratton, sailing on Corpo Santo take the win, but that was not enough to snatch the Weekend win from Cormorant, Justin Waples, Steve Rands and Vicky Brookes, who finished the weekend as winners of the Silver Tankard, with Corpo Santo as the runners up.
The Royal Burnham One Design last day of the Bank Holiday Weekend was won by Red Jacket, sailed by Stephen Herring, Mel Lewis, David Harris and Ralph Herring and this allowed them to win the Wylie Patterson Cup, on countback, from Aquamarine, sailed by Angela Shephard, Matt Shephard and Sarah Hastwell.
The East Coast One Design regatta was won by Rhythm, representing the ECOD Association and sailed by Dan Halley, Duncan McLaren and Dave Halley, for the ECOD Whitsun Goblet, with Delphine, Beccs Polden and Charlie Moore, being the runners up.
More than 70 races, 162 boats entered, no less than 10 lady helms, first time sailor winning their class, a 7 years old helm and trophy winner, a wonderful pirate attack and three seasons over three days, this was the Burnham Week 2024 Bank Holiday Weekend in a nutshell.
