With several boats missing on their way to compete at Poole week, perhaps a few deciding that the weather was a bit filthy, ten X boats appeared on the start line by mark H. Today being the date closest to their birthday, the X boats were racing for the Jardine Trophy in honour of Class legends Stuart and Ado Jardine.

The race team aboard Mike Cowan's Big Blue had a difficult job with a strong flood tide due to ebb, shifty northerly breeze that was due to go west, on top of that 60 29ers due out for their practice race, there was a lot on.

The start line was keenly contested, unfortunately X33 tried a bit too hard and was called OCS. Lone Star and Zest led ahead of Crumpet. The course twisted and wound its way across the Solent, and it looked like the places were settled, only for the wind to shift to the west on the penultimate leg to C.

On the reach to the finish Crumpet manage to hold off a fast charging Mayfly. X-ray managed to get their kite up quickly to get past a well sailed Nefertiti.

Overall Lone Star (Stuart Jardine's old boat) leads the Saturday Series by two points with second to fourth tied on points.

Jardine Trophy Results: (top five)
