The Massachusetts Region's classic racing season has now concluded, which began with the Vineyard Cup in June. Despite challenging conditions this year, the event was a welcome addition, boosting participation from CRF classics. The 25th Corinthian Classic Regatta in Marblehead followed in mid-August and was a great celebration of yachting for all. The season wrapped up with a doubleheader in Nantucket last weekend.

Diana Brown, CYOA Board Member and Race Organizer, praised the weekend of sailing in Nantucket, highlighting the impressive turnout of nearly 50 classic boats. "It was an extraordinary few days on the water," she said. "We managed to get in five races over the three days, culminating in the legendary Opera House Cup, now in its 52nd year. The energy and camaraderie among the sailors were truly remarkable, making it a weekend to remember."

Massachusetts District Report:

  • Total classics that raced under CRF in Massachusetts: 86
  • Boats that sailed at least 3 races across 2 events, earning a CYCS score: 14
  • Boats that declared MA as their district: 64
  • CYOA Members eligible for awards: 3

Massachusetts District Winners:

  • Vintage: Polly, Peter Gallant
  • Classic: Grace, Michael Herde
  • Contemporary: Outlier, Harvey Jones

Next, teams will head to Narragansett Bay for the Herreshoff Classic Yacht Regatta this weekend, followed by the Newport Classic Yacht Regatta the following weekend.

Racing isn't over after that—the Indian Harbor and Heritage Cup classic yacht regattas will take place on Long Island Sound in September, offering more opportunities for boats to join the action and vie for those trophies.

As we look forward to the upcoming races, we encourage all classic yacht enthusiasts to stay tuned for more updates and results. For more detailed scoring and information on upcoming events, please visit website: www.classicyachts.org
