2024 Pacasmayo Classic: Aussies take out Masters in Peru

by International Windsurfing Tour 12 Aug 2024 17:36 AEST 4-17 August, 2024

A fired-up Adrian Levy (Australia) found the best waves of the day to take out the highly competitive Masters title at the Pacasmayo Classic. With a slowly increasing swell, the best sets were overhead, but quite inconsistent. However, Levy managed to find them in every heat and tear them apart with aggressive, powerful riding. After a moderate start in the final, he found a perfect set wave halfway through that offered consecutive aerial sections to get the highest wave of the final and take the win.

Making his first appearance at a 4 star Masters event, Peter Kenyon (Australia) had impressed the entire event with aerials and vertical snaps. He started the final well with four critical lip hits for a 6.93, but struggled to find a similar quality back up and finished just 0.23 points behind Levy. 2023 Masters World Champion Arnaud Frennet (Chile) was another who had been in excellent form, showcasing stylish aerials and critical snaps. He still produced excellent moves but unfortunately found one of his best waves just 30 seconds after the heat ended. Frennet finished with the same heat total as Kenyon, but was relegated to third place as Kenyon had the higher best wave. Raoul Reiner sailed well to make his first ever Masters final and finish in fourth place.

The Grand Masters scored the biggest cheers and waves of the day with some of the best sets rolling through in their heat. The sailing was stylish and aggressive with Nicolas Recordon taking the win with a solid heat total of 12.86. Ricardo Gonzales (Chile) also enjoyed the excellent sets to take second. Nelson Perez (Peurto Rico) had a tightly fought battle and just snuck his way into third over Paco Stuven (Chile).

In the Junior Girls, fifteen year old Sarah Kenyon (Australia) continued her dominant run to take the win. Judges were impressed with her good wave selection and tight snaps in the pocket, and noted that she improved with every wave.

Tomorrow brings a swell increase and the plan is to run Pro Men and Pro Women. Finals Day will be broadcast live on the IWT event page, as well as the IWT YouTube channel.
