Sarah Douglas from Toronto qualified for the ILCA 6 Medal Race at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after finishing the qualification phase in 10th position.

The ILCA 6 Medal Race is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, at 2:43pm (ET).

Starting the last day of the preliminary racing phase in 11th position, sixth points away from the 10th and last spot available for the Medal Race, Douglas clinched a 13th-place finish in the ninth event, which brought her up to 10th place. The 10th and last preliminary race was cancelled due to wind conditions, which secured her qualification for the Medal Race.

"It has been a tough week, but I'm happy to be in the medal race," said Sarah Douglas. "I'm not really in play for medals, but I'm just going to go out and have fun, and really appreciate the moment."

Here is the top 10 ranking in ILCA 6 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games following the preliminary races:

1. Marit Bouwmeester (NED) - 30 points
2. Anne-Marie Rindom (DEN) - 51 points
3. Line Flem Hoest (NOR) - 71 points
4. Maud Jayet (SUI) - 76 points
5. Elena Vorobeva (CRO) - 79 points
6. Emma Plasschaert (BEL) - 83 points
7. Chiara Benini Floriani (ITA) - 89 points
8. Louise Cervera (FRA) - 93 points
9. Erika Reineke (USA) - 98 points
10. Sarah Douglas (CAN) - 99 points

The Medal Race

In ILCA 6 at the Olympic Games, the sailors took part in 10 preliminary races. For each of these races, sailors were scored according to the position in which they finished (for instance: 1 point was awarded for position 1) for the cumulative ranking. The worst result registered by each competitor/team was discarded.

The top 10 athletes or teams following these preliminary races qualified for the Medal Races, a single race where only the top 10 athletes take part and in which points are doubled.

The sailor with the lowest point total at the end of competition wins the title, with points that athletes earned during the preliminary races being carried forward with them into the medal race.

Sailing fans can watch sailing races through the live stream offered by CBC Sports and Radio-Canada Sports, in addition to a Live Online Tracking tool available on Sail Canada's website at www.sailing.ca/sc_event/2024-olympic-games.
