UK Hansa TT at Carsington Sailing Club

The sixth event in the UK Hansa TT (Travelling Trophy) series was held at Carsington Sailing Club, Derbyshire on the 10th July. There was strong entry, 22 boats on the water with 30 sailors and a total of over 70 people attending.
Ten sailing clubs were represented from as far afield as Scotland's Clyde Cruising Club to Newhaven and Seaford on the south coast. Six boats entered from Carsington Sailing Club which was the best number of entries Carsington Sailability has every achieved.
The weather was overcast with a cold south westerly wind of 12knots gusting 24 giving an air temperature of only 15C. The rain fortunately held off for the racing.
The fleet breakdowns were as follows:
- 4 Liberty
- 7 Hansa 303 single
- 8 Hansa 303 double
- 3 Hansa 2.3
The Liberty fleet shared a start with the 303 singles both having a total of four races, two morning back to back, two afternoon back to back. David Durston, Whitefriars SC, dominated the Liberty event, winning all four races. Rory McKinna, Clyde Cruising Club, won three of the 303 single races, Jazz Turner, Newhaven and Seaford, winning the other. (Jazz sailed with her dog Phoebe as crew! Phoebe was very relaxed in the circumstances, sleeping through most of the races).
In the 303 double all four races were won by Lynne Swan, helm and Stuart Swan crew from Chesil Sailability, runners up Ian Frisby helm, Julia Frisby crew from Swarkestone SC with Niall Guite helm, Vicky Scotcher crew from Carsington Sailability in third place.
The Hansa 2.3's shared starts with the 303 doubles but only had three races. The event was won be Lindsay Burns, Frensham Pond Sailability, taking all three races with Roger Nadal, Carsington Sailability second and Michael Moore, Carsington Sailability, third.
Roger was awarded the Duke of Devonshire trophy as the highest placed Carsington sailor. The Rotary Challenge Shield is awarded for the best effort on the day, with 8 Carsington sailors entering a Hansa TT for the first time, this trophy was awarded to "Team Carsington".
Richard Mollart, Chair of Carsington Sailability Trust, presented the prizes saying how wonderful it was to see so many familiar faces, thanking all the visitors for attending to make it such an enjoyable day.
