Light winds and high spirits

Day 1 of the 2024 RS Feva World Championships began with a consistent but very light breeze. All three flights of qualifiers managed to complete their three races.

Defending World Champions, GBR's Ben Greenhalgh and Tom Sinfield of Port Dinorwic Sailing Club, showed strong performances, with results of 1st, 2nd, and 1st proving why they are top of their game.

Charles Simmonds and Archie Bates, also GBR from Tonbridge School, secured 2nd place overall, despite a 5th place in the first race, by winning the next two races.

SUI's Daniel Cook and Theodore Denjoy of Club Nautique de Versoix, achieved a 3rd, 2nd, and 2nd, placing them third overall. Used to racing on the Swiss lakes, they showed the rest of the class how to improve their tactics in light air conditions.

With 18 nations represented this year, and the top 20 ranking featuring sailors from a majority of those countries, it just goes to highlight the global growth of the class. Not only is Europe well represented but there are also entries from far and wide including the USA, UAE and China. Of the four boats from China, helm Che Liu of Beijing Sailing Center and crew Shirley Ma are ones to watch - with Che Liu fresh from winning the Topper Worlds in Murcia, Spain last week.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, a light easterly breeze is expected, making accurate forecasts challenging. However, with sunny weather and high spirits, everyone remains optimistic.
