Border Counties Midweek Sailing Series event 4 at Bala Sailing Club

by Dave Thomas 19 Jul 2024 17:08 HKT 16 July 2024

The Border Counties Midweek Sailing 2024 series visited Llyn Tegid (Bala) for the fourth event in the Tuesday series. As people started rigging their boats the rain started followed by more rain, thankfully it did stop as we set out for race 1.

However the wind that was forecast at 8mph gusting 17 from the south turned out to be about 1mph and changing direction constantly, so the race officer decided to abandon and go for an early lunch.

The forecast was for the wind to come about 1pm and from the SW so we headed out and sure enough we were not disappointed, the course was set and 23 boats made their way up the lake. After two laps (long legs at this lake) the race win was taken by local Mike Allen in his Devoti D-One followed by Steve Pooley in his K1 another local and third was Eric Heselden in his Supernova. First double was the RS400 with Stuart Halman and Ness Evans from Leigh and Lowton.

Race 3 (2) saw a change of course with an extra mark being added to force us higher up the lake the wind stayed the same and fairly consistent and again just two laps with the win being taken this time by Dan Partington - Bala - in his K1 followed by Dom Oakeshot - Winsford - in his Streaker followed by Eric Haselden - Winsford - in his Supernova and the RS400 of Stuart and Ness first double.

It's good to see such a range of boats with such different handicaps and age ranges with the largest class being the Streaker again.

Thanks to the team at Llyn Tegid(Bala) for hosting this event for us and as with all these events that we all enjoy attending they could not be held without all the volunteers.

The next venue in the series should have been at Redesmere but due to a weed problem we have cancelled this and are now holding the event at Shotwick on the same date Tuesday August 13th. So why not come and join our friendly Tuesday club it's better than being in work!
