Laura and Chloe from Pocketspace Marine have recently upgraded the interior of a Dufour 520 Grand Large yacht.

Over the past few months, they have been networking and spreading their company name within the Marine industry. And what better way to enter the industry than by combining their skills and creating a stand-out marine interior for Yachtshare?

Yachtshare has a large fleet of beautiful boats. Zen is one of their larger yachts.

Zen is a Dufour 520 Grand Large, 50 ft overall. She has a sleek interior with three cabins, three heads, an open-plan galley, and a main saloon. She also has a very spacious aft cockpit and a forward deck. Zen can sleep up to seven people and has a cruising speed of 7-9 knots.

The brief was to update the interior and cockpit living areas of the seven year old design by Italian Umberto Felci, without any structural alteration.

To style Zen, Pocketspace Marine used the Weave Collection from Warwick Fabrics, the Baya Collection from Furtex, and the Outdoor Collection from Braziwi.

The Weave collection is Warwick's most recent 2024 collection. This Collection was inspired by places in Australia and with inspiration from certain locations that people love to visit all over the globe. Weave has a very relaxed coastal and contemporary urban living feel to it with added elements from favourite travel destinations.

The Baya Collection is Furtex's most recent 2024 collection.

It was designed in New Zealand and guided by an appreciation for high-quality materials, high standards of aesthetics and luxury, and the aim to create distinctive finishes formed by collaboration with skilled artisans.

Laura and Chloe used the Baya collection in the main saloon and galley.

The existing upholstery is a light shade of grey/purple, so adding some rich, deep autumn colours really complemented this and added some depth to this space. They wanted to make the interior feel grounded and cohesive with the existing finishes.

The oak cabinetry is a bold shade to work with, and the Pocketspace Marine Team made the interior work flawlessly with the Baya Collection.

The Outdoor Collection from Braziwi is a unique collection they run all year round.

Specifically, Pocketspace used their beanbags and outdoor cushions on Zen. With lots of options to choose from within Braziwi, the beanbags add extra practical use to the boat's spaces, and the materials are all Marine grade. Having marine-grade materials on a boat is highly necessary as the quality needs to withstand the salt air and high UV exposure.

The main exterior area of the boat, such as the cockpit, also needed an uplift. Pocketspace used the Braziwi Outdoor Collection for the port and starboard bench seats, and we also used some throws and cushions on the aft bench seat, using a few Baya and Weave pieces.

The cockpit on Zen offers such a large social area. Pocketspace wanted to bring an inviting sense to the seating arrangements and keep it as cohesive as possible regarding materials.

Chloe and Laura wanted to complement the teak deck and grey squabs, so they introduced some darker tones. This was an opportunity to subtly add some colour. It was an excellent opportunity to approach the cockpit area with a different style than the rest of the boat to signify the change in social environments between interior and exterior spaces. As guests move throughout the boat, they can enjoy the comfort and cohesiveness of each space.

The team at Pocketspace Marine focuses not only on aesthetic interior design but also on the practicality and suitability of the Marine lifestyle and environment.

With years of interior design experience and years within the Marine industry, Zen is the perfect example of what Pocketspace Marine has to offer in terms of transforming an interior space.
