With the Olympics later this month and the quest to regain the America's Cup starting in late August, the Sailing Museum and the National Sailing Hall of Fame invites Hall of Fame sailor and Emmy Award-winning television commentator Gary Jobson to break down the much-anticipated competitions at the museum on July 18.

His presentation will take place at The Sailing Museum on that Thursday at 6:30 PM (doors open at 6:00) located at 365 Thames Street in Newport. Tickets are available at thesailingmuseum.org.

Jobson, who will be covering the Olympics for NBC television beginning with the first Olympic race a week later in Marseilles, will give a presentation focused on America's prospects in both the Olympics and the America's Cup this year, analyzing the strength of the team against our international rivals.

The United States is sending 13 athletes in 9 classes to compete in Marseilles, France. The American squad has been training for the past three years for the Games. The museum is interacting with four of the Olympic athletes through a letter-writing campaign leading up to Opening Ceremonies. Four from the team—Lara Dallman-Weiss, Daniela Moroz, Stephanie Roble, and Hans Henken—have agreed to correspond with kids through postcards and videos.

The New York Yacht Club's challenger, American Magic, has assembled an all-star sailing and design team in their quest to return the Cup to the United States. There are five challengers from France, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland and the USA that will compete to take on the defender from New Zealand.

Jobson raced on three America's Cup crews in Newport between 1977 and 1983. He has covered 9 Cups for ESPN and NBC between 1983 and 2013, and he has covered the Olympics 7 times for NBC since 1988.
