There is still plenty of time to enter for the Sonata National Championships 2024, so don't miss out.

Competition will be fierce but friendly as at least four previous national champions are entered so far for the Sonata National Championships to be held at Medway Yacht Club between Sunday 11th and Wednesday 14th August 2024. To date 19 boats have entered, which is the same number as the competitors at the Championships last year. There are still seven weeks to go until the event, so hopes are high for a larger turnout this year.

Competitors are coming from far and wide. Those travelling furthest are coming from The Lake District, Wales and the South Coast of England. A healthy entry of local boats and boats from east coast clubs add to the number.

Organisation is well in hand for what should be a well organised event. The event is kindly sponsored by Pirate Cave Chandlery, Hamilton Home and Living Ltd and Craft Insure. Besides the racing, evening events are organised as well as the Hamilton Living Championship Dinner with live music on Tuesday evening.

Racing will be held over the four days and up to 16 races are planned. The racing area will be downriver from the club. Olympic style windward/leeward courses with gates will be set. The River Medway has many bends and reaches making it ideal for setting courses in any wind direction. The tide also adds additional challenges. A round the cans race is also scheduled which will make use of the numerous navigational, wreck and island marks in the river.

The MYC Sonata class and the club are encouraging participation in the Nationals by offering a competitive Sonata to hire for the event at £425 including entry. (First come first served.) Those competitors wishing to gain experience of the Medway River can also enter the MYC Regatta on 12th to 14th July which will be sailed in the same parts of the River Medway.

Please visit the Medway Yacht Club website where full information about the events and entry forms can be found at www.medwayyachtclub.com

Medway Yacht Club look forward to welcoming competitors to what should be an exciting event.
