Having had a great social at the Club, the fleet gathered for what appeared a steady westerly. Mike Cowan and his race team aboard the good ship Siesta set a cracking course of A,1, G with a finish back where we started just to the west of the river.

Oh, the best laid plans, just after the start, won by Fury and Lone Star, James Meaning's Gleam from Yarmouth had headed north and picked up a big right handed shift. Mayfly spotted this tack to leeward of Gleam and headed straight for A and thereafter managed to find her transits to stay ahead. Lone Star locked in 2nd ahead of Claire de Lune, Fury, Annex and Barry Dunning' s Crumpet.

Race 2 saw equally shifty conditions as we raced to a laid windward mark in Oxey Lake which saw Cordelia and Richard Ellis' Myrtle in the lead. On the run to 2, the Yarmouth boats Myrtle and Gleam with X Ray worked hard left and the local knowledge paid handsomely. Behind them a messy knot of boats struggled to get around the mark. The race committee wisely made hoisted S over H at mark B and we sailed straight to the river finish with XRay winning from Gleam with Myrtle 3rd, Lone Star 4th and Beatrix 5th.

Overall the best boat of the day went to Lone Star - on a day of pretty big scores she has moved up to 3rd place behind Mayfly and Claire de Lune.

This evening is the Respect Gin party what could possibly go wrong?
