Twenty-four X boats appeared on the start line for day one of Lymington Respect Gin XOD Week 2024. A very shifty and patchy wind and a turning spring tide gave Mike Cowan and his team a tricky time on David Da Cunha’s Committee boat Siesta.

In race 1 after a general recall the race started under flag Z. Clare De Lune escaped the pack to have a convincing win ahead of X-Ray. Further back Mayfly just managed to get clear of Venus and Astra at the leeward mark to get through to 3rd. In winning the first race of the regatta Claire De Lune also won the Persephone Salver.

In race 2 again after a general recall once again we started under flag Z this time a clear start. Having felt the relief of the clear start, the fleet piled up at the moveable windward mark. Various different theories were on display on the run to H. Mayfly, who had been pretty far back, managed to keep in the wind and avoided the holes to gain the lead. Thereafter she managed to keep in phase with the huge self-tacking windshifts. Claire de Lune who had lead at mark 1 managed a very good recovery to finish 2nd ahead of Heyday and Fury with X-ray in 5th.
