DF95 Spring Series at East Kent Radio Sailing Club - Update

by Peter Jackson 7 Jun 2024 20:33 HKT 5 June 2024

The penultimate East Kent spring series event at Barton's Point Country Park had a forecast of little wind with rain but just enough wind for 16 races before the rain gave very close racing. Jim LaRoche was too busy re-setting the course to race as the wind boxed most of the compass, leaving nine boats to take part.

Dave Adams won race 1 from Mike Brand, but then Adrian Tomlinson plugged in three wins in a row, and two more by race 8 to lead from Dave.

Rob Owens second DF95 outing started poorly before a win in race 5 but his challenge faded. Peter Jackson threatened and finally won in race 7 before a consistent run of podiums to the end after an early lunch break for lack of wind.

Meanwhile Dave and Adrian were swapping first places race by race. Mike Brand only got a look in with a second win in race 15.

Club Chairman Alan Hounsell couldn't break the monopoly at the front but did grab two second places.

With all positions to play for Dave Adams took the last race to take the event from Adrian by 1 point before discards and 3 after. Peter Jackson's second place held off Mike Brand's challenge for third overall. Robert Own's final race sixth behind Peter Glover secured fifth overall behind Mike and ahead of Alan Hounsell.
