Sailingfast ILCA Thames Valley Grand Prix event at Littleton Sailing Club

by Martin Rides 7 Jun 2024 02:28 PDT 12 May 2024

Littleton SC in Shepperton hosted the ILCA Thames Valley Grand Prix event, sponsored by Sailingfast, on Sunday 12 May 2024. The event was attended by fifteen boats with ten in ILCA7 and five in ILCA6.

After a delayed start, waiting for the wind to appear on what was otherwise a glorious morning, racing began just after noon. Four races were completed, with winds predominantly between 6 mph and 14 mph but shifting significantly throughout the afternoon. The shifts presented a challenge but also opportunities to make up lost ground.

Close racing happened over both classes though Littleton SC dominated in the top of the ILCA 7 fleet taking the top four places, with Simon Derham taking the top spot. Further down the ILCA 7 fleet five places were decided by only 3 points.

In the ILCA 6, Christopher Kilshaw of Reading SC took top spot, just ahead of Suzie Munnery of Littleton SC.
