OTAM 80HT #007 - The most sophisticated and technologically advanced ever

by Otam 3 Jun 2024 06:51 EST

Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Genoa-based OTAM is no stranger to customization requests. After all, the boutique builder has long specialized in tailoring its high-performance yachts to suit the individual needs of its discerning clients. However, the 7th and latest example of the OTAM 80HT, now in build, takes customization to a new and exclusive level.

The new OTAM 80HT boasts an exceptionally robust construction, featuring a full Kevlar hull and deck, complemented by carbon fibre hardtop and deck components, meticulously selected by the owner. This selection required an exclusive lamination package and additional uni-directional fibers in high-load areas.

The Italian shipyard has modified the engineering of the hardtop coupling and removed the central windshield pillar, thus achieving a view without the slightest obstruction. Furthermore, the yacht features a fully customised dashboard and instrumentation package with multiple back-up systems specified by the expert owner who will drive and crew the boat himself.

The complexity of the shipyard's engineering work was aimed at obtaining a yacht that is simple and smart in terms of systems, in response to the owner's explicit request to access the engine room as little as possible.

The list continues with the sliding sunroof integrated in the hardtop, the bespoke garage configuration capable of housing two jet skis, the extra-tall structural windows without pillars in the main deck saloon for more natural light and the double windows in the full-beam master suite.

There is also the yacht's outstanding performance thanks to the super-lightweight construction, hull lines by Umberto Tagliavini and Aldo Scorzoni Marine Design & Services, and the power of twin MTU 2600hp engines coupled to Arneson drives - a potent combination that will deliver a top speed of 47 knots.

"Bespoke design and smart engineering is in our DNA and we set up the OTAM Co-Design Lab so clients can build their boats the way they dream them," continues Belardinelli. "This owner, in particular, came to us because he wanted to build something truly different. He knew that with OTAM, he would find the flexibility and necessary expertise from a brand that chooses to work outside the classic comfort zone. I'm confident we can not only meet but also exceed his expectations by working diligently together."

Exterior detailing and interior styling by Nuvolari Lenard

Last but decidedly not least, there is the appointment of Nuvolari Lenard to curate the interior styling and exterior detailing. The shipyard has worked with many top designers, including Achille Salvagni, Tommaso Spadolini and Cristiano Gatto, but Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard have created some of the world's most luxurious megayachts and the collaboration marks another first for the shipyard.

"Selected specifically by the owner because of their superyacht experience and reputation, the Venice-based design studio brings an unparalleled sense of uniqueness to this project," says Matteo Belardinelli, OTAM sales & communication manager. "I've represented OTAM for eight years and I can honestly say that this seventh 80HT is undoubtedly the most sophisticated, elegant and technically advanced we have ever produced".

With the hull and deck lamination complete and special insulation components installed for extra-quiet onboard comfort, outfitting has started and construction is on schedule for delivery in March 2025.
