1. The History of the Race

The New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne is a solo transatlantic race on board IMOCA 60 monohulls. This event is part of the IMOCA Globe Series circuit and is the last qualifying race for the big event the Vendee Globe 2024.

The first edition of this race took place in 2016 and was won by Jérémie Beyou in 9 days, 16 hours and 20 minutes- this is the record to beat. It is part of the tradition of legendary transatlantic races like the Route du Rhum and the Transat CIC.

This is the first time that Canadian skipper Scott Shawyer will take part in this race. He will be competing against 28 other IMOCA skippers.

2. The Course

The start takes place 100 nautical miles off New York on May 29, 2024 and finishes in Les Sables d'Olonne in the Vendée region of France. The skippers will have to cover around 3100 nautical miles by crossing the North Atlantic.

The competing sailors will cross the start line 1400 (EST) local time on May 29, but the will need to depart their docks on Tuesday May 28, in order to reach the offshore start line. The reason for this is they have to sail slowly through an inshore whale migration zone before they can pick up speed and start the race.

You will also be able to follow the real-time position of the boats thanks to the tracker on the official website: www.newyorkvendee.org

On-board videos and interviews will also be broadcast on our social media all along the race.

4. Race on Virtual Regatta

Virtual Regatta allows you to step into the shoes of an IMOCA skipper and virtually participate in the Transat. It's the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the race and experience all the intensity! www.newyorkvendee.org
