Introducing Daniamant ODEO SOS Electronic Visual Distress Signal (eVDS) USCG approved

by Datrex 2 May 2024 01:48 PDT

Daniamant and Datrex would like to introduce the new ODEO SOS to its range of electronic visual distress signals (eVDS).

The ODEO SOS is certified to meet US Coast Guard requirements which means it can be used (with provided distress flag) on recreational vessels within US waters. The ODEO SOS is a high intensity strobe light providing an internationally recognized "SOS" (... ---...) morse code signal.

US vessels up to 65' feet in length within US waters (12 miles) or a passage to the sea of at least 2 miles wide or the Great Lakes, that have the ODEO SOS onboard can use it as a replacement for pyrotechnic flares. For vessels under sixteen feet in length the distress flag is not obligatory and the ODEO SOS still stands as a vital nighttime visual distress signal.

  • >2500cd peak equivalent
  • Fixed intensity for 9 hours (USCG requires 6 hours)
  • User replaceable AA batteries
  • Easy twist action (important in cold conditions)
  • Lanyard and Velcro strap
  • Buoyant & Lightweight
  • SOS Signal
  • Includes a large distress flag for daytime use
  • No expiry date = multiple years of use
The ODEO SOS lasts up to 9 hours continuously, increasing your chances of rescue and survival. The ODEO SOS is approved as a nighttime visual distress signal per USCG requirement 46 CFR 161.013. The orange distress flag provided meets the requirements for daytime use per 46 CFR 160.072. The daytime visual distress signal requirements are also met for carriage and approval of day and night distress signals, please refer to 33 CFR part 175.
