by Petru Balau 28 Mar 2024 15:29 PDT

What looks to be a very busy sailing season for dinghies on the River Crouch will start this weekend with the Easter Regatta, hosted by Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, a two days, four races event, with 15 boats expected to compete, event open to members of all Burnham clubs.

In a continuation of the efforts started in the second half of the last season, the main three Burnham sailing clubs, Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Royal Burnham Yacht Club and Burnham Sailing Club, along with Creeksea Sailing Club, are jointly organizing a season long Sunday Series, open to members of all clubs.

Talking about the arrangement, the RCYC Dinghy Class Captain, said: "The aim is to increase the competitiveness of dinghy racing on the river Crouch and, by sharing resources and decreasing costs, to make sailing more accessible.

The Sunday morning races are going to be hosted by RCYC and RBYC for the spring and summer series, between Easter Weekend and Burnham Week and by BSC, for the autumn series.

RBYC will be hosting the annual Whitsun Regatta, "a spring-time extravaganza of racing and social events, open to all, held over three days", between 25th and 27th of May.

The Saturday spring and summer series, the RCYC Super Saturday, has the first two races scheduled on 20th of April, followed by 18th of May, 15th of June, 20th of July and 17th of August.

The midweek series, hosted by Burnham Sailing Club, is scheduled to start on Tuesday, 9th of April and will continue during the spring and summer and is sprinkled with a number of trophy days.

The very popular Tuesday night laser sailing, instigated by the legendary Ant Law, will be making a return, with the short races moved to Thursday evenings during the summer.

Burnham Week is shaping to be a busy week for dinghies, with the Bank Holiday weekend geared towards family sailing, John Torrance Trophy in the midweek and with a newly established trophy, The Ditch Cup, to be awarded at a ceremony hosted by BSC, on Town Cup day.

RCYC are scheduled to host an RS200 open, on 21st and 22nd of September, just 2 weeks before the RCYC Endeavour Trophy 2024, scheduled between 11th and 13th of October.

The autumn/winter Saturday series, the RCYC SnowGlobe, will commence on 16th of November, followed by 23 and 30 of November and 7 and 14th of December, to be followed by the last event of the year, the RCYC Icicle Series.
