Calling all A-Class Catamaran sailors - Discover the magic of Pensacola

by Pensacola Yacht Club 25 Mar 2024 11:26 PDT April 5-7 & 9-13 April, 2024
Pensacola Yacht Club sits on 22 acres where Bayou Chico flows into Pensacola Bay. Small boats like these 301 Optis, launch from the 250 foot beach. Plenty of trailer space is available for boat storage between regattas. PYC is known as South's finest YC © Talbot Wilson

Register now for the A-Class Admiral's Cup (April 5-7) and North American Championship (April 9 - 13) at Pensacola Yacht Club. Organizers are hard at work planning a regatta sure to be memorable for years to come. Notice of Race and registration information can be easily found at Regatta Network with separate classes for classic and foiling sailors.

Hal Smith, PYC's Vice Commodore and National Race Officer, promises top quality race management. Past Commodore and Regatta Chairman Tom Pace will put together a great shore team and a program of activities for all. The PYC team wants A-Class Catamarans to come from all over the nation to enjoy the "South's Finest Yacht Club." Sailing on Pensacola Bay is spectacular. The bay is naturally protected by Santa Rosa Island to the South. The pass to the Gulf of Mexico is located to the southwest, across from the Naval Air Station Pensacola and divides the Gulf Islands National Seashore on Santa Rosa Island from the western park on Perdido Key. The racing area is a matter of minutes from the Bayou Chico Channel and the PYC marina. That's more racing and less transit time.

Pensacola Bay is naturally deep with a white sand bottom. The water is clean, seasonally warm, with light chop in a breeze, but not often rough. The east-west shoreline in downtown Pensacola to the north is perfect for regatta spectating. Pensacola Bay is reported by our American Magic Team to be "the best foiling bay in North America".

Pensacola Yacht Club hosts many large-scale events. Adult competitions at PYC have included several Thistle and Lightning Class North American and regional Championships, a Melges 24 National Championship, the US Sailing Single Handed Championship and the Corsair Nationals. The club is the starting point for the biennial SYC/PYC international Regatta al Sol and organizers of the biennial PYC Offshore Cup in alternating years. PYC hosted the U.S. Sailing Alter Cup in A-Class Catamarans just last year in October 2023.

Register now before time gets away from you! For more information, please contact Suzie Domagala, Pensacola Yacht Club Fleet Captain at 941-224-5477.
