Earning recognition for boosting access to sailing in a rural setting, those working behind the scenes at Lochcarron Sailing Club are commended with an RYA Scotland Impact Award.

RYA Scotland Impact Awards are designed to reward hard work and dedication within the Scottish boating community.

Today, recognition is going to those at Lochcarron Sailing Club, who have shown dedication to providing education and coaching opportunities, helping increase accessibility to sailing in a rural and isolated environment.

Commended for going 'above and beyond' in terms of their regional collaboration with other clubs and RYA Training Centres, those at Lochcarron have truly elevated their club offering.

Included in that offering are the clubs training weeks, with participant numbers growing year on year.

Oriel Woods, Lochcarron SC Commodore said:

"Word seems to have gotten out about our training weeks, so we've been getting lots of people coming - it's nice to see. We've got a lot of children and grandchildren of people who learned here previously which is nice.

"The main focus is just to get people sailing.

"There's no one person who makes everything happen - it's a group effort."

Recognising the journey Lochcarron SC has had over the years, club member Steve took the chance to reflect on his own experience:

"I've been involved with this club since it began, we've been going 30 years or more, and we've grown it from a two berth caravan and a couple of toppers to what you see today."

Becoming a key part of the community, it's clear those involved behind the scenes at Lochcarron are eager to provide top quality experiences.

Club member and parent Angela Goodman said: "I help with whatever the club want to put on as events for members. The club is an amazing team to be part of, there are so many people who work hard.

"It's lovely that someone has nominated the club for an Impact Award. We just really enjoy being here, and love introducing people to sailing - it's really nice. It's a great sport to be involved in."

With all courses and sessions delivered with an emphasis on "sailing, fun and friendship", Lochcarron SC are dedicated to ensuring a positive and welcoming environment for all.
