Day 1 action-shots of SailGP Sydney racing by Crosbie Lorimer

by Bow Caddy Media 24 Feb 23:41 PST 24-25 February 2024

The high winds originally forecast for Day 1 of SailGP Sydney racing on Saturday did not eventuate; but the gusty and shifty southerly kept everyone foiling most of the time and the occasional bullets had the F50s at speeds of up to 40 knots for short bursts.

The tricky wind conditions and shadows created by Shark Island made for very tactical racing. The wind being at the bottom end of the High Speed Board range just made things harder, especially for the flight controllers.

And it was interesting to see that Tom Slingsby's pre-race game plan kept paying dividends for the Australian team, even when they were well down the fleet.

The forecast for Day 2 shows a sunny day with a light nor'easter building by race time.
