Under the threat of light winds and high temperatures (around 40 C), the annual Tally Hobbs Memorial Regatta was conducted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club last weekend. Tally Hobbs is celebrated as the man who established the Flying Fifteen class in Western Australia back in the early 1950s.

Twenty boats spent lots of time waiting for breeze and maintaining hydration but finally got down to business with 2 races on Saturday and 3 races on Sunday.

At the end of day 1, Nick Jerwood and Brad Sheridan (Best Foot Forward) held a narrow lead from David Yu and Chris Nelson (Tuffan Up) followed by a tight group of boats, mainly lighter crews, revelling in the light conditions.

Day 2 saw more of the same shifty light winds causing the majority of the fleet to sail their discarded result after being caught on the wrong side of a shift on a short course. Nick and Brad secured first place overall by winning 2 more heats while David and Chris won 1 heat to be second overall.

Hamish Carnachan and Peter Mudford (Neffarious) were always in the mix to be third overall and Jen Sims and Warren Hastings (Yes, No, Maybe) finished strongly to be fourth overall.
