29er Euro Cup at Real Club Náutico de Valencia - Day 1

by Pep Portas 1 Feb 2024 14:04 PST 31 January - 4 February 2024

The first of the four days for the 29er, regatta framed in the program of the Olympic Week of the Comunitat Valenciana and the championship of Spain of the class, with three races completed in the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, is closed.

The fleet of 60 29er boats, competing from today Thursday until Sunday 4 in the waters of Valencia closes the first of the four scheduled days and does so with 3 races completed for the two groups. The wind has arrived late to the regatta area 'Manel Casanova' but when it has done it has remained at about 7-8 knots of intensity on an axis of 155º (Southeast).

The favorites have complied with the script. In this sense, the local tandem formed by Sara and Isa Momplet (RCN Valencia) have been placed provisional leaders, thanks to some good partials, with partial victories in the first two races of the day, while in the third race they took the third place in their blue group.

Behind and with a single point of difference are the Palmasanas Marina Conde and Susana Bestard (RCN Palma), competing today in the yellow group. Partials of 2-3-1 makes them total 6 points. The provisional bronze goes to another crew with all the numbers to be on the podium. Paula and Isabel Laiseca (RCN Gran Canaria), blue group, close their participation with partials of 3-3-1.

The first men's crew is in fifth place. The French Charles Trolard and Thibaut Clouet (YC Mauguio Carnon), in the blue group, have 12 points, with partials of 5-5-2. Silver and provisional bronze for the Poles Bartosz Adam Zmudzinski and August Sobczak, with 13 points, and the Valencians Mateo and Simón Codoñer (RCN Valencia) with 15 points, respectively.

Tomorrow second day for the 29er with 4 races scheduled. The starting time for the first race is set for 11.00 a.m., unless there are changes and weather conditions are favourable.
