After an absence of more than a decade there will again be a division for classic yachts to compete in the Sydney Harbour Regatta.

The regatta, which is to be held this year on March 2 and 3, is one of Australia's largest single sailing events and brings together eight of Sydney's most prominent clubs.

Classic yachts are generally considered to be any sailing craft designed or built before 1976.

While the majority of racing in the regatta will be in one-design divisions the return of classic yachts affirms the event's connection to the history and traditions of sailing on Sydney Harbour.

There will be two short races for the classics on the Saturday and a longer race on the Sunday. Entrants can opt to compete in spinnaker or non-spinnaker divisions.

The Notice of Race and the Entry Form are available at www.shr.mhyc.com.au

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants.
