Challenging conditions lead to only one completed race

Today officially marked the start of the 2024 ILCA 6 Women's World Championship, co-organized by the Yacht Club Argentino and the International Laser Class Association.

The regatta began with 102 competitors from 46 countries and will award seven spots for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The first day of the championship unfolded under unstable weather conditions and winds ranging from 8 to 12 knots from the north-northeast. This initial qualifying phase is divided into two fleets, yellow and blue. The shifting wind caused repeated starting attempts for the yellow fleet, delaying the start of the blue fleet's race.

Just before the start of the second race, an intense storm forced the Race Committee to send the entire fleet back to port for safety reasons. Although the Race Committee had initially considered returning to the race course to complete the second race, they considered it too late to start a second race.

Since only one race was completed, the top positions are tied: Julia Busselberg from Germany and Line Flem Hoest from Norway lead the championship. The Italian Carolina Albano and the Belgian Emma Plasschaert are tied in second. Rounding out the top finishers are Danish sailor Anne Marie Rindom and Israeli sailor Skay Kakon, who are in third place.
