Zhik, the gamechanging techical clothing brand, have partnered with crews on Azzuro, LawConnect, URM, Making Waves and Navy One in the Sydney Hobart race, launching at 13.00hrs on December 26th.
Star sailor Jessica Watson, Xavier Doerr and crews across the fleet will wear Zhik clothing, refined over two decades at the highest level of racing to ensure maximum performance and comfort in challenging conditions. The 630 nautical mile race, renowned for it's heavy weather, will test the crew's resilience, and their kit, to the max.
Technical kit highlights include the Seaboot 900, made from rubber and insulating neoprene, tested and proven to keep feet dry; the OFS800, made from eVent Direct Diffusion fabric, offering unrivalled breathability levels without any compromise on durability and waterproofness; soft touch, insulating core baselayers and Zip Fleece jackets for lightweight and versatile warmth.
Jessica Watson, Australia's sailing sweetheart said, "Zhik are setting the standard in terms of sailing gear innovation and it's a wonderful plus that they are an Australian brand showcasing our ability and love of sailing to the world. I just love that Zhik are supporting us on Azzuro, as one of the smaller boats in the fleet."
The Zhik fleet:
Azzurro is a boat shrouded in racing history. With some of Australia's biggest sailing names on board, Azzurro rates highly to contend with the front of the fleet in this year's edition, having finished 4th overall in 2021.
A dominating presence on the water, LawConnect is one of the four supermaxi yachts that will be taking part in this year's challenge. Having finished second over the line in the previous three editions, they are aiming to claim line honors.
Overall handicap winner of the SOLAS big boat challenge, as well as multiple victories throughout this year's Bluewater series, URM is a strong contender to win this year's edition of the Sydney - Hobart.
Making Waves Foundation is an Australian not-for-profit charitable organization that provide unique on-water experiences for young people with disabilities or adults experiencing disadvantage.
Owned by the Royal Australian Navy, Navy One's Beneteau First 40 is sailed solely by serving Navy personnel.
Johnny Rodgers, Zhik Marketing Partnerships and Global Sponsorship Manager said, "Sydney Hobart is one of the toughest races there is and supporting these teams, all serious contenders for the Tattersall Cup, is an honour. We wish them all well and will be following their progress all the way to the finish line."
