The Grand Pavois La Rochelle, partner and consultant of the first edition of the Salão Nautico de Salvador

The international in-water boat show created in 1973, the Grand Pavois La Rochelle (France) will celebrate its 52nd edition in October 2024. With 80,000 visitors and 750 boats, 300 of which are in-water, this show has become a key date in the programme of international in-water boat shows. It should be noted that Brazil has twice been the Guest of Honour at the Grand Pavois La Rochelle and Grand Pavois Organisation has organised the finish of the Charente-Maritime/Bahia Transat 6.50 (Mimi Transat) six times with the State of Bahia and the city of Salvador, as well as the Défi Atlantique Salvador de Bahia / La Rochelle once, a qualifying race for the Vendée Globe (solo round-the-world race).

Christophe Vieux (CEO Grand Pavois Organisation): "It is an honour and a privilege for Grand Pavois Organisation to be present along side the City of Salvador for the launch of the first edition of this boat show, which is set to expand rapidly over the next few years. We have long been convinced of the great potential of Salvador and the Bay of All Saints for the yachting industry, and we naturally hope that this collaboration will continue over the next few editions of this major new event for the Brazilian yachting industry."

The State of Bahia and Salvador: abooming destination for water sports and the Brazilian nautical industry!

As organisers of the event, the Municipality of Salvador is keen to develop the nautical sector, in order to develop new activities and generate new jobs in the city. The idea? To showcase the advantages of Salvador as a destination and encourage shipyards to set up in the capital of the State of Bahia.

The dynamic of continuous economic growth in Bahia's water sports market - driven by the local taste for the sea -combined with the competitive advantages of the climatic and geographic environment, as well as the two large fully navigable bays - Todos os Santos Bay and Camamu Bay - offer unique conditions in Brazil and a promising future for the development of projects and the arrival of new companies in this sector.

If the State of Bahia, and Salvador in particular, are already major destinations for water sports and recreational activities (arrival of many races such as the Transat Jacques Vabre and theMini Transat, and rallies, etc.), these activities are expected to become even more important with the development of boat construction, the trade in equipment and parts for water sports, and above all the practice of new sportsactivities.

It really is a favourable economic environment in the process of being set up with a high reduction in import tax on sailboats adopted by the federal government, the construction of five marinas by the State government, not to mention several projects by the municipality of Salvador, which, in addition to providing financial resources to the first boat show in Bahia, is implementing many other projects in various secretariats such as:

  • Project for hosting international regattas.
  • SAC Nautico project, which simplifies bureaucratic procedures for boats and sailors, mainly from overseas,in all public institutions.
  • Project for a University of Sea.
  • Project to train and improve the qualifications of the workforce employed in the water sports sector.
  • Condominio and Distrito nautico de Salvador project.
  • Marina municipal project, and many more.

The first edition of the Salão Nautico de Salvador will also be the showcase for this dynamic and this new development policy based on the water sports sector in the state of Bahia and the city of Salvador. Salvador and the state of Bahia deserve to become a reference destination for water sports in Brazil!
