Nine teams from six schools are all set and signed up for the 2023 edition of the RYA Schools Match Racing Championship at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The event will be taking place this weekend (11th/12th November) with nine teams of three or four crew all hoping to take home the coveted title of RYA Schools Match Racing National Champions.

The crews will be battling it out in the RYA's matched fleet of Elliot 6M keelboats as used for the London 2012 Olympic Match Racing.

This years' event brings together an entry list with a range of new and familiar names.

Notable entries include Ruby Sunderland (Ryde School) who was the winner of the Sonar and National Championship Trophy at Cowes Week this year. Ruby will be competing against the Rutland Raiders team from Rutland Sailing Club, who are known for their successes in team racing. Can they transfer those skills to match racing? We will have to wait and see.

Year on year more schools are branching out from team racing, with the aim of getting their students into keelboats at an earlier age and learn match racing, a highly tactical discipline relying heavily on teamwork.
