Nacra 17, 49er and 49er FX European Championship - Day 1

by 49er and Nacra Sailing 9 Nov 2023 05:47 EST 9-13 November 2023

We have officially kicked off the 2023 Nacra 17, 49er and 49erFX European Championship in Vilamoura, Portugal!

Last night, we had around 400 sailors of 34 nationalities, nearly 100 coaches and numerous organisers and supporters gathered at the Vilamoura Marina for the opening ceremony. Today, the racing started at 12:00 UTC, with two fleets for the 49erFX, three fleets for the 49er, and a single fleet racing for the Nacra17.

With an Olympic Country ticket on the line, Jana Germani & Giorgia Bertuzzi, from Italy grabbed the spotlight winning both races today. Denmark's Josefine Nöjgaard & Esther Bojsen-Moller are currently in second place, leaving some big names and experienced teams in their wake.

In the 49er, only one race was sailed today as the breeze died down in the late afternoon. Winners: Wizner & Wizner, McHardie & McKenzie, and Schneiter & de Planta. Let's see what tomorrow gives! Read the full 49er and FX report.

Livestreams will begin November 11th on Youtube with live commentary. Until then you can follow the races with the tracker.

For updates, news, race documents and more visit the 49er.org and Nacra17.org websites.

Results available for 49er, 49erfx and Nacra 17.

We will cover the event extensively through our social media: Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and Tiktok.
