Columbus Sport 50-metre M/Y K2 wins best Fraser charter boat award 2023

by Columbus Yachts 29 Oct 2023 05:27 AEDT

During the charter fleet event organized by Fraser in the course of the Monaco Yacht Show 2023, the crew of Columbus Sport 50 m M/Y K2 won the prestigious award for best charter boat over 50 metres.

This year a fleet of over 80 boats competed in the annual European event.

The crew of M/Y K2 stood out for having totaled up over 80 days of charter, for extraordinary customer reviews and for having handled any unforeseen events on board in an exemplary manner. This vessel is certainly one of the most sought after on the market with customers confirming their booking up to a year in advance.

This is certainly thanks to the unwavering commitment of the 10 highly experienced members of crew and of Captain Enrico Orselli, who participated in the construction process of the vessel at the Palumbo Superyachts shipyard in Ancona.

Hydro Tec studio collaborated with Palumbo Superyachts to develop the naval engineering of Columbus Sport 50, while Luca Dini Design & Architecture penned the exterior and interior design.

The lines of Columbus Sport 50 M/Y K2 are marked by a distinctive plumb bow, with double chine cross sections to improve seakeeping and keep the boat dry even in rough sea conditions.

The interiors are neat, bright, harmonious and coherent. M/Y K2 accommodates 11 guests in five comfortable cabins and the outdoor layout presents attractive solutions developed on the concept of conviviality and flexibility, with the opportunity of enjoying the same areas for different daytime activities, like easily transforming the sun loungers into sofas for conversation or for hosting guests. Still to maximize the use of each area, great attention was paid to devise shading solutions. On the two decks, the bar and dining area are set up both indoors and outdoors. A comfortable entertaining zone has been created in the Skylounge, with a large TV screen, a bar and a games table.

The hydromassage pool is located on the upper deck forward and can be reached from the cockpit via two large side walkways to turn the entire deck into a proper relaxation and entertainment area.

The fitness area in the owner's quarters, on the main deck forward, expands on 18 sqm and is equipped with a functional gym designed in detail as well as a hammam in the owner's bathroom.

The beach club, thanks also to the approx. 4 sqm transformer platform with retractable accessory which automatically rises when opened, provides a large relaxation and entertainment area.

Zyricote and Tanganica Frisè, two essences with an exotic and deco flair, the reflections of the lacquer and steel details, together with the soft textures of leather and fabrics set the atmosphere of every area. The cappuccino-colour onyx and Lasa white zebrino marbles used in the bathrooms are also very impressive.

Completing the overall effect are designer furnishings, with a preference for Fendi products, but with a careful eye on classic and craftsmanship tradition of the great companies of our Country.

Another main aspect from a technical point of view was to the control of noise and vibrations to reduce them to extremely low levels in the guest rooms; a particularly significant abatement registered at 85% of the maximum power of the propulsion system, at a speed of just over 20 knots.

Powered by two 2000 HP MTU engines, M/Y K2 is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 21.5 knots, with a cruising speed of 17 knots and a generous range for transoceanic crossings. The multitouch control panel by TEAM Italia, designed in collaboration with the Palumbo Superyachts team and the Captain of M/Y K2, was developed putting safety and maneuverability first in order to guarantee the Captain flexibility in any sea conditions.

In essence, the Columbus Sport 50 embodies two distinct souls that allow it to be an absolutely sporty boat, in terms of maximum speed, without sacrificing on-board comfort and range at economical speed, absolutely in line with displacement type hulls.

The vessel is equipped with a tender and a jet ski respectively positioned at the stern of the lower deck (Seadoo, 3.31 metres) and at the bow (Castoldi Jet tender 21 of 6.5 metres). The tender is hauled and launched through a hull door on the port side.

M/Y K2 has a latest generation entertainment system developed in collaboration with Videoworks. To allow external connections, two Sailor 900 High Power VSAT antennas were installed, so as to ensure reception of the satellite signal at any angle the yacht is located and three Cradlepoint 5G ready dual modems.
