6th in the World Championships 2023, Anton and Johann Sach are no strangers to the front of the International 29er fleet - this week we hear their tips for success and about their future sailing dreams.

How old are you both?

Anton 16 and Johann 18.

How long have you sailed the 29er?

We have sailed for 3 years together.

What do you love about sailing the 29er and the racing?

We love the speed and the agility of the 29er - the racing is so much fun because we have a really big fleet.

Who/what has inspired your successes/inspires you?

Our family inspired us to go sailing and obviously we love fast sailing!

What are your strengths as a team? Who does what job in the boat and what are you both good at?

Our strength together is to be obsessed with speed tuning until no one is faster than us. Johann is doing the crewing and constantly changing the setup so we are always in the fastest speed mode. Anton is helming and keeping an eye on the things around the boat and focusing on steering perfectly.

Why do you think you've been so successful in the 29er and what are your future goals in the class?

We think a big part of our success is coming from the ability to sail through the fleet which was really important at the World Championships 2023. We had a great last season in the 29er this year and will now finish sailing the 29er, stepping into the 49er.

Do you have any top tips for people just starting in the 29er, for fellow sailors, mixed teams and for those looking to improve their performance for next year?

First is very important to sail as much as you can, taking any opportunity to learn. Secondly learn to have fun in the process, not always focusing on the goal and always keep an eye on the small steps so you can see that you are making progress.

What are your future sailing goals, dreams and ambitions?

Our dream is to compete in the Olympic Games so the goal is to use every second we have to improve in the 49er. We think the 29er is the best springboard to move on in the Olympic classes so keep on learning in this amazing class. We are happy to move on but already missing the 29er!
