7th Annual Star Class Vintage Gold Cup underway

The Vintage Gold Cup and ISCYRA welcomed this year's participants to Gull Lake, Michigan for the 7th Annual Vintage Gold Cup. Competitors have traveled from Germany, Brazil, Sweden, Canada, Bermuda and throughout the USA (including California, Maryland, New Hampshire, Florida, New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, Washington and Michigan).

Returning to defend last year's title is Lars Grael (Brazil) who is teaming this year's event with crew Mauricio Bueno (Brazil). Also, in this year's fleet will be three time champion of the Vintage Gold Cup Paul Cayard (USA)once again sailing with son Danny Cayard (USA). Mark Reynolds (USA) is teaming again with his Gold Medal crew Hal Haenel (USA). From Sweden Leif Carlsson and Thomas Karlsson are returning to showcase their skills in boat handling. The Carlsson family has been building Star Boats in Sweden since the 1960's and have generously partnered with the Vintage Gold Cup in the restoration of six wooden star boats.

The forecasted weather is for light winds and a chance of rain on the first day of this three-day event. Should the winds fail to enable racing many sailors find their way to the Club's golf course just across the street.

About the Vintage Gold Cup

The Vintage Gold Cup is an annual regatta held at Gull Lake, Michigan in recently restored wooden Star Boats. As one of the oldest one-design classes in sailing, the Star Boat is revered for its technical sailing requiring high performance handling. It was one of the original classes chosen for the Olympics and even today its World Championships held annually attract over 90 entries including some of the world's most accomplished sailors.
