There are two weeks to go to the start of the 42nd Hamble Winter Series and with entries building a number of the "usual suspects" have already signed up.

Not satisfied with being RORC Class 4 Season's Points Champion and 4th in Class 4 in the Fastnet Race, With Alacrity, Sigma 38, Chris and Vanessa Choules, will be looking to repeat their success as Yacht of the Series in the 40th Hamble Winter Series. Another famous offshore competitor, JAGO, J109, Mike and Susie Yates, last year's Yacht of the Series will be out to stop them. JAGO was 2nd in Class 3 in the overall RORC Season's Points Championship and 2nd in the IRC UK Two Handed Championships. Clearly, winter series sailing is good for your offshore performance.

Another former Yacht of the Series and current Quarter Ton Champion, Protis, Ian Southworth will be battling for the top honours again this year, to prove that the winter series can also get you ready for windward/leeward courses.

The Hamble One Design Championships will start on the first weekend and this year the Solent J111s will be coming to play. Jagerbomb, Jitterbug, Jolene and JourneyMaker 11 have signed up so far. Any chance of a J111 that doesn't start with a J; McFly perhaps?

This year's programme is as follows:

  • Hamble Winter Series, eight Sundays from 8th October to 3rd December.

  • Hamble One Design Championship, 7th & 8th October and 21st & 22nd October.

  • Hamble IRC Autumn Championship, 14th & 15th October.
