Pahuatini rounds out 2023 Youth Worlds Team, selection procedures for 2024 Youth Worlds announced

Hawaii's own Mani Pahuatini was selected after resume review to represent the United States in the Boy's Formula Kite at the 2023 Youth Worlds, set to race in Búzios, Brazil from December 8-16.

Pahuatini joins 14 other top American youth athletes who qualified June 26-30 at the U.S. Youth Sailing Championship in Bristol, RI.

Racing in Brazil this December and Representing the USA:

  • NEW: Boy's Formula Kite - Mani Pahuatini (Kailua, HI)
  • 29er Mixed - Tyler Lamm (Palm Beach, Fla.) & Andrew Lamm (Palm Beach, Fla.)
  • 29er Female - Laura Hamilton (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) & Carolina Zager (Miami, Fla.)
  • i420 Mixed - Freddie Parkin (Riverside, CT) & Asher Beck (Cos Cob, CT)
  • i420 Female - Callie Hammond (Larchmont, NY) & Ava Stevens (Darien, CT)
  • ILCA 6 Male - Nicholas Mueller (Whittier, Calif.)
  • ILCA 6 Female - Audrey Foley (Miami, Fla.)
  • iQFOiL Youth Male - Makani Andrews (Kaneohe, HI)
  • iQFOiL Youth Female - Sage Andrews (Kaneohe, HI)
  • Nacra 15 - Cody Roe (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) & Brooke Mertz (Parkland, Fla.)
Additionally, US Sailing is excited to announce selection procedures for the 2024 Youth Sailing World Championship.

New: 2024 Youth World Championship Selection Procedures

The USA qualification events to the 2024 Youth Sailing World Championships will be conducted with the following equipment:

  • Boy's One Person Dinghy - ILCA 6
  • Girl's One Person Dinghy - ILCA 6
  • Mixed/Boys' Two Person Dinghy - i420
  • Girls' Two Person Dinghy - i420
  • Mixed/Boys' Skiff - 29er
  • Girls' Skiff - 29er
  • Mixed Multihull - Nacra15
  • Boy's Windsurfer - iQFOiL Youth
  • Girl's Windsurfer - iQFOiL Youth
  • Boy's Kites - Formula Kite
  • Girl's Kites - Formula Kite
US Sailing's ISC will select one eligible prospective athlete in each of the single-handed classes and one team of two eligible prospective athletes for each of the double-handed classes to represent the United States at the 53rd Youth Sailing World Championship. For all of the classes except the Formula Kites, the top eligible finisher in their class at the following events will earn selection:

For the Nacra 15 class:

  • Nacra 15 Midwinters East| January 13 - 15, 2024 | Lauderdale YC, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
For the iQFOiL class:
  • iQFOiL Youth World Qualifiers | March 15-17, 2024 | Kaneohe Yacht Club, Kaneohe, HI
For the ILCA 6, i420, and 29er classes:
  • ODP Midwinters West | March 21-24, 2024 | Alamitos Bay YC, Long Beach, CA
If any of these regattas are a "non-event" as defined in the Notice of Race for that event, cancelled, or postponed, then the ISC will publish a revised selection procedures for the affected class(es) as soon as practicable.

For the Formula Kite classes:

The ISC may select one Boy's Kite and one Girl's Kite athlete by sailing resume, based on the following criteria:

  • Performance at previous events
  • Experience on Formula Kite equipment
Eligible athletes must submit their sailing resume and a 2024 on- and off-water training plan to US Sailing () by April 30, 2024. In order to be considered, athletes must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Athlete Eligibility section of this document. Athletes will be informed of the selection decision no later than May 15, 2024. Athletes are encouraged to contact with any questions or issues.
